Let’s Teach Social Justice

Can we make every day MLK Day for our children?

I had the privilege to teach at Freedom Camp in Portland on Monday,  MLK Day.
It is powerful to fully focus on civil rights for a day.

What if we worked to integrate social justice into the daily curriculum of programs across the country? Can we make the call to talk honestly with children about our history with racism?

Let’s find more opportunities to:

-Notice and appreciate differences.
-Talk about what is fair and unfair.
-Support children to use their voice and power for good.
-Create opportunities for children to stand up for what is fair.

This is how we create change. This is how we step toward inclusion, equity and peace.

The Oregonian beautifully summarized the experience and history of Freedom Camp in this article.
